The Belgian furniture brands at feelathome

Four brands, two decades of collaboration and a few coffee breaks on the factory floor: part of what you find at feelathome doesn't have to travel far.

You’ve just finished a renovation. The contractor is gone, the last invoice paid, and now the real work starts: decorating. At feelathome, part of that answer doesn’t have to travel far. Some of the brands you encounter in our two inspiration houses in Boortmeerbeek, we have known for fifteen, twenty, sometimes more than twenty years—not because they just happen to be Belgian, but because there was a real connection with the people behind them.

Jov, a carpet that started with a father and got better with his son.

feelathome has been working with JoV since 2011. Jo Vandenbussche had years of experience at Louis Depoortere, which had just gone bankrupt at that time, and started his own brand. In the beginning, this offered little extra compared to what feelathome already carried. Only when his son Gilles joined, with more possibilities in the field of custom work, did the collaboration really gain momentum, and the personal connection clicked immediately.

From thread to meters-long carpets

JoV is a Belgian family company, the weaving itself is still done entirely by hand in Portugal. The Anke collection is its most beautiful fruit: it was born from a continuous demand for custom carpets, for which Anke selected fabrics that she often used in the sitting areas of Flexform, Poliform, Linteloo and Indera, with matching colors developed for them. Discover the JoV carpets or our full range of design carpets.

And it is also clear who the collection is named after. As you may know, Anke is one of the founders of feelathome. More than twenty years ago she and Geert renovated their own castle farm in Boortmeerbeek, and that house is now our showroom. Learn more about our story.

Signature Design

The Signature Designs of JoV are unique carpets with striking patterns and a strong graphic character. Each design brings a special mix of color, texture and form, making the carpet a real eye-catcher in the interior.

What you’re reading above is handmade. Carpets from JoV are designed in Belgium and handmade in Europe, with natural materials like wool, linen, mohair, and silk. In the video you can see how this is done in the factory and how a design step by step becomes a carpet.

Indera: the designer sofa a client saw in a magazine, and which feelathome brought all the way to Dilsen-Stokkem.

The collaboration dates back to 2007, after a client, during a consultation, saw a sleek sofa by Indera in a magazine, the Sintese. feelathome made contact, Indera had only just entered the Belgian market, and a visit to the factory in Dilsen-Stokkem followed: the complete collection, local production, and a direct click with founder and CEO Carl Meers.

Today, the Float sells better than the Luv: the fine, light lines fit better with the interiors that feelathome designs today, and the designer sofa transforms in thirty seconds into a full-fledged recliner, ideal for an apartment or second home where space is limited. The Bold attracts the client looking for a sleeker house. Each Indera sofa is handcrafted, with premium materials down to the details: cold foam, mousse and pocket springs of the same quality as the wooden frame itself—beech, because that's the best there is. Moreover, Indera has its own technical service that visits clients' homes, something that makes a big difference for sofas with a mechanism. And then there is also our own feelathome collection.

feelathome itself designs tables, coffee tables and storage furniture in wood and metal, in collaboration with Belgian furniture makers. Collections such as Moscow, Copenhagen, Malines, Boston and Ypsilon each have their own character, the Ypsilon coffee table combines a steel structure with a top in wood, marble, or halchimia, always made to measure. For custom wall units and built-in cabinets, feelathome works together with carpenter Jos Heylen, a regular Belgian custom partner. Check out the own collection.

Jeroen De Ruddere

The start of our cooperation with Jeroen De Ruddere was also “atypical”. Anke & Geert were, for their most recent project in Norway, searching for a beautiful plank floor. That’s how we ended up at Belgiqa, a Belgian manufacturer of high-quality and exclusive parquet flooring. We were specifically looking for a color that had to “match” perfectly with our stone floors and natural stone in the kitchen.

At Belgiqa we were very warmly welcomed by Jeroen. He is someone we immediately felt on the same wavelength with, who thought along with us and looked for solutions. But at the end of our first visit, he asked: “May I show you something? I am in love with wood. In a little hangar now, I have my own lathe and I am busy launching a new standing lamp collection with a wooden base.”

We think we still gave him some useful input. But we also immediately saw the match of his collection within the atmosphere that feelathome brings. We also like to give young Belgian designers & entrepreneurs a chance. What is more fun than being involved in a success story from the very beginning? We are therefore always happy to see Jeroen at international fairs like Salone del Mobile in Milan or 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen. In a recent issue of Sabato, he also received a lot of attention. Much success further, Jeroen!

Story
Limited Edition Samoa tapijt

Limited Edition, the difference is in what you don't see.

feelathome met Limited Edition at the Maison & Objet fair in Paris, where then-owner James Dewitte caused quite a stir at his stand. Again, the connection was immediate. Since then, since 2002, feelathome has partnered with them for carpets that can hardly be distinguished by the naked eye from a factory-made piece—until you feel the difference: the yarn used, and above all the density with which it is tufted or woven. A carpet can be made 50 to 75% cheaper by using less material, a thinner tuft or lower quality yarn. At Limited Edition every carpet is tested for wear and colorfastness. You don’t convince customers with a loose sample, but with the whole: feelathome asks to bring samples or comes to your home to match the carpet with floor, sitting area and walkways. Collections from our neighbors

Just across the border there are also a few names that feelathome has been working with for years: Linteloo from the Netherlands for designer sofas, Artifort for armchairs, Perletta for carpets. Not a Belgian story, but still a story from nearby, and the same level of care.

Questions about our Belgian brands

Does feelathome also carry international brands in addition to these Belgian ones?
Yes. feelathome combines Belgian craftsmanship with international names such as Flexform, Poliform, and mdf Italia. The selection for each project depends on what the interior needs, not on the country of origin.

Can these pieces be custom ordered?
JoV develops custom carpets, that’s exactly how the collaboration with Gilles Vandenbussche evolved. The feelathome collection itself can also be completely custom. The other brands are best discussed during a consultation in the showroom. For many of our suppliers, we are more than a furniture store, so we often achieve something extra.

Does it really make a difference for customers that a brand is Belgian?
Often, customers don't even know the brand is Belgian. Many manufacturers choose a name that sounds international or Italian. The reaction is usually: “aha, nice, we like that, rather buy something local.” It’s rarely decisive. Our customers mainly choose what fits them and feels like a whole, not for the label’s country.

What is Belgian about the own feelathome collection?
The collection is designed by feelathome and produced in collaboration with Belgian furniture makers. For custom work on cabinets and walls, feelathome cooperates with carpenter Jos Heylen. At feelathome you can also turn to us for your kitchen, which is also of Belgian make!

Where can I see these brands for myself?
In our 2 inspiration homes in Boortmeerbeek. For Indera, it also applies that their own technical service can visit your home if necessary, and that, by exception, feelathome may visit their showroom with a client for a specific piece.
